"The End is Near!!"
August 22, 2002
It is mid-August as this is being written and even though it seems like the racing season just started, we are definitely in the Lte season run. CES has two events left, DMSS has on left and Dart Kart/WKA has two events left on the calendar. SKUSA Great Lakes is into the last few events of their schedule as well!
Team Rapid Racing has a total of three events left on our personal schedule with CES Gateway, CES/SKUSA GingerMan and the October show at Mid-Ohio.
As usual at this time of year I am calling for a unification of Midwestern Road Racing and an end to the "Us against them" attitude that just wonıt go away. The back-to-back scheduling at some venues such as Grattan and GingerMan does nothing to help the sport and in fact reduces car counts at each race which leads to the "Nobody comes because nobody comes" syndrome. This is not a jab at any organization or series but a pure statement of facts. As always, hope springs eternal and maybe, just maybe, common sense will prevail eventually.
As long as I am complaining, are the various road race series trying to take shifter kart racing down the same road as they have so many classes in the past? Split it up until instead of having a fifty-car field, you have ten classes with five drivers each? Example: 125cc-S1, 125cc-S2, 125cc-G1 and 125cc-ICC. Whatıs next? A class for yellow bodywork only?
Okay, okay! Enough already! Team Rapid Racing has been on an intense R&D program for the last few weeks and time will tell if the effort was worthwhile, but testing indicates some clear improvements. As I said, time will tell, but you have my personal guarantee that we are going for the outright win and are committed to improving our results which havenıt been really too bad.
Overall the future looks bright. Kart sales here at the shop near Indy have been exceptionally brisk for late summer and that bodes well for the continued growth of the sport. Let me re-phrase that, the growth of our sport!
Once again the late season charge is on! Itıs time to get your big guns and letıs go racing. Next time you see myself or the mysterious Gooseman (?) at the track stop by and say Hi!
Time to go to work.
Until next time Race Hard, Race Safe and God Bless America!!
