Chaplain's Corner! By Kenneth Dressler Racers for Christ & Chaplain of the Championship Enduro Series
The IRA Awards Banquet was a wonderful time. It seemed to be more family friendly, with rich fellowship. The trophies and prizes were great and will be a constant reminder of racing battles fought and won. My daughter and I were even honored as champions and received our long-awaited jackets. I wanted to say, "I thank all of you who didn't race against me to make this possible." This racing season I'm rounding up competition so I probably will not be champion again. Thank you, IRA Staff, for doing a wonderful job, and come on racers, let's encourage growth. This is a good thing.
I don't know about you, but I'm tired of winter. My hands ache, my fingers are cracked from the cold, which makes my job of being a lock technician difficult. I'm looking for some heat and rest, and am heading for the beach at Galveston Island, TX. Maybe I'll find a kart track there somewhere. The dead of winter, though, does offer some time for reflection.
I know that God gives us different seasons of life to draw us unto Himself. I am personally into a phase of life which calls for some major decisions. I encourage you, as well as myself, to look for God's guidance. His promises for direction are sure, if we trust in Him with faith. Proverbs 3: 5-6 are some of the most popular verses. Why not memorize them and put them to work? "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your path straight." Could you imagine driving a kart around the track where the turns were like straight-aways? Boy, would that improve my lap times. The idea of trusting the Lord means having a growing knowledge of His Word and moving in obedience to what it tells us. How are you doing along Life's Road? Are the turns too frequent and the pot holes too many? In John 14:6 Jesus said, "I am the way and the truth and the life." Jesus challenges us to enter in at the straight gate. He said [Matthew 7:14] "Because straight is the gate, and narrow is the way which leads unto life, and few there be that find it." The straight gate and narrow way is like the entrance onto the track, that we road course racers must use off the pit starting grid. Jesus spoke hard words, but what a good trade, the perfect swap meet. Our earthbound life for His Heavenly life.
Come and spend some time with me in some fruitful reflection in this dead of winter and let's make Jesus our Lord.
