Chaplain's Corner! By Kenneth Dressler Racers for Christ & Chaplain of the Championship Enduro Series
With the conclusion of the C.E.S. race at the Milwaukee Mile and (by the time this paper is out) most other series' seasonal end, all that's left is talk. Conversations about the highlights, and critiques of how things went. Also, the thoughts of what changes to make for next year.
One of my concerns is the dying of the Enduro classes. My history goes back to the 1960's when the stock laydown class numbered in the 70s. In my comeback to racing in the mid-90s, entries were over 10 per class, which stil made competition fun. Whatever level you were at, there was someone to race with. Whether we like it or not, road course racing is evolving and sometimes we must change with the direction of a sport. I guess for me, I will give the Classic one more year. My suggestion would be for all of us Enduro racers to find one class we can agree upon and go for it.
After it's all said and done, I must also consider, as a series chaplain, how things went. As a racer, all that we do in set-up and practice is for the race. Being a chaplain, what I also do is in preparation for the Chapel Service. That is when the power of the preached Word of God is presented. I spend hours on the message. It's not someone else's or an old sermon from my collection. I receive, prayerfully, the thoughts God flows through me and create a fresh and relevant message to us as racers. It's a joy for me to be used in such a way. I will not apologize for believing in the Bible as the ultimate truth. Its message is that which we will answer to on judgment day. What I find very discouraging is the lack of interest in the karting community to attend a Chapel Service. I have prayerfully done all I can do to make people aware of the Service. It is only because of the faithfulness of the Lord and His encouragement to obey Him do I carry on.
I do want to thank Dave Larson, my daughter Deanne, my racing buddies, other Christian racers and Racers for Christ for your encouragement.
To close, here's a jewel from God's Word given to us in Hebrews 9:27-28. "Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him." Now, that's all said and done.
