"The Glory of God"

For our summer vacation my wife and I went to the ski resort town of Steam Boat Springs, Colorado. Sitting on the porch one morning we viewed the Rocky Mountains and were inspired by God's glorious creation.

When He had finished creating the world, God said, "It is very good." Man, with his God given abilities, has come up with some wonderful inventions, like my '87 Corvette which got us there. Cruising at 80 mph at 28 mpg in this hot rod, and being the most comfortable long haul vehicle I have ever driven, is one of them. Also, the joy of driving it through the turns made me think of kart racing. Our karts have become quite the machines, too. When they function with dependability and top performance for their given purpose they are to our glory.

As stated in Genesis, when God created male and female as the completion of all He had made, He said it was very good, but man broke fellowship with God through disobedience. At a later time, God gave Moses a picture of how we should live in the Ten Commandments so that men would love God and know how to treat other men. God gave mankind great potential for good. Movies I have recently watched like "Radio" and "Anton Fisher" give us a picture of how we can make a difference through a commitment to love each other.

Mankind, with all our abilities to train, to invent and to learn modern technology, coupled with the capability of doing good is a wonder to behold. We were created in God's image, a reflection of Him, but because of sin that image has become marred. Scripture tells us: He is the potter, we are the clay, He the creator, we the created. He is all-knowing, we know only in part, He is all-powerful, we are very limited. God's utmost character is love. and we must work at it but we fail miserably. One of our chief goals is to bring glory to God, to reflect His goodness and love. That brings Him joy.

What I am trying to say here is that our God is an awesome God and His glory is reflected in His creation. Our problem is this: in Romans 3:23 we read "For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God." Nevertheless, God has redeemed us, bought us back through the sacrificial death and resurrection of Jesus. Our personal faith association with what Jesus did for us places us in the position of "being in Christ." 2 Corinthians 5:17 says: "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new have come!" As our karts, in their full potential, bring glory to us, won't you join me in bringing Glory to God.
