Chaplain's Corner! By Kenneth Dressler Racers for Christ & Chaplain of the Championship Enduro Series
As this racing season comes to an end, most of us will do some serious evaluating as to how we did. Although we won't have to worry about being fired or what racing team we will be on next year, our plans are still on our minds and are the main topic of conversation with our racing families. For me, this year has fallen short on two fronts. As far as racing goes, although I had made some changes in set up and engine, my times were still a second or two off my competition. Next season I plan to have a new nose cone to improve aerodynamics and will analyze my total set up to make improvements where needed. There is always hope when we have the desire to improve and take action in that direction.
The second front, which is of greater concern to me, is my fruitfulness as a chaplain. Chapel service attendance was down and likewise my inspiration for the message. I have tried many things over the years, and have come down to a sit down chat. I am also concerned about what is happening in the lives of those I am closest to in racing. My fit as the chaplain may not be the best, and I am always looking for the right one to take over. I do believe the Lord has opened the door for this ministry, and He can also close it. Let's pray for guidance and wisdom on all our parts.
Faithfulness is an important characteristic of the Christian life: being faithful in our daily walk with the Lord and faithful about doing what He tells us to do. May I encourage you to get more spiritually connected this off-season. Please join me in getting spiritually refreshed, for just as our engines need it, so do we. In John 15:4 Jesus commanded, "No branch (that's us) can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me."
May I also encourage you to give thanks to those who serve us in kart racing. They can be the fuel that keeps us going. And don't forget to thank God for His provision and allowing us to do what we do. My prayer for you is that you may prosper in all things, even as your soul prospers. Also, I pray that next season our spiritual lives will increase even as our racing lives increase.
