Chaplain's Corner! By Kenneth Dressler Racers for Christ & Chaplain of the Championship Enduro Series
One of the handling problems on the track is the inability to get your kart to maneuver through a turn at the desired rate of speed. "Push" is the term for one such problem and is also known as "over steer." When steering through a turn, the kart wants to go straight. The remedy is to slow down or go off the track. This lack of front tire grip or slipping will increase the tire temperature, creating more push. The end result is poor lap times. I can relate to this as a road course racer. Some tracks, like Gateway, encourage this problem and it is related to track surface. The remedy, for me, is softer front tire compound and there are numerous other helps.
The difficulty of turning our lives around to head in the right direction can be another serious problem. Trials, temptations and spiritual laziness are continual battles in life and push us off God's course. Bible devotionals, prayer, Christian fellowship are like having the correct tire compound on our karts and help us stay on God's track. His promises are rich and His mercy and power are easily accessible when we, by faith, call out to Him.
For God's promise in regard to life's trials, consider Psalm 46:1 which reads "God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble." For help in temptation, read 1 Corinthians 10:13, which says, "No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it." For forgiveness and guilt, 1 John 1:19 tells us, "If we confess our sins He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness." Apply these scriptures to your life and they will be a help in eliminating "push."
