"For the Love of the Track"

It's a fact that all of us involved in racing love our race tracks, whatever form they take, wherever they may be. You can't disagree with me, because your life and actions prove me right. First off, most of us have spent a small fortune just to get to the track. I am even considering buying a $11,000 trailer with it's own apartment so I can live at the track. A racer never accepts sub-standard, worn equipment, so there's the continual expenditures for maintenance and updating. New karts, tires, engine rebuilds, gauges, etc. are a must. Then there are entrance and practice fees and the purchase of fuel for travel and for kart. Are you with me so far?

Next is the track itself. I love it and want to do everything possible to stay on it. I turn the steering wheel for the turns, I apply the brakes in the sharper turns when necessary as to not leave the track. This could result in all kinds of trouble. I put the best rubber tires on my kart to stick to the track like glue. When driving the track I am as good to it as I can be. I want to be as smooth as possible in the turns, only using the surface area that will accomplish its will, giving me the best results.

Then there's the meditation we do. We can't wait for the day to arrive when we go there. We constantly think about preparation. In our minds we maneuver around the track, memorizing its different forms. We anxiously wait for the green flag to drop for the first hot laps and even dream about being the first one to receive the checkered flag in our race. Don't you love the track?

Then there are those who are ignorant about the track. They don't realize the traction on the track is much better than grass, sand, gravel, holes and dangerous obstacles off the track. Then there are those who willfully drive off the track. They are rebellious and think they can beat the consequences, but will suffer destruction. These may say they love the track, but are really blind.

This illustration intended for the racer can be used for anything in life that controls us or captures our hearts. For example, it could be a teenaged girl's concern for how she looks, leaving her controlled by her pears, or an adults career that absorbs their life.

Now let's transfer our love for the track to the love of the truth. The truth is found in the Bible and is the Word of God. In 2 Thessalonians 2:10 the Word says, "They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved." Verse 13 reads: "from the beginning God chose you to be saved through the sanctifying work of the Spirit and through belief in the truth." In John 14:6 Jesus said, "I am the way, and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." Then in verse 21, "Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him."

Our love for the track is obvious, so let us also love the truth. For many of us, past or present, it may be said: "There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death." Proverbs 14:12. That covers those ignorant or rebellious of the track. God's love for us is beyond our understanding. Read John 3:16: "God so loved the world (you and me) that he gave his one and only Son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life." Let's put it this way: this track or truth loves us. Once we are in the truth we begin to love the guardrails and the adhesiveness of the truth because that's where true blessedness is. If you haven't already, why not come to the truth right now? Accept Christ's forgiveness of your sin transferred to you through your belief (trust) in His death and resurrection. See you at the track and we can talk more about the truth if you have any questions.
