Chaplain's Corner! By Kenneth Dressler Racers for Christ & Chaplain of the MG Tires Championship Enduro Series
In the kart racing industry the word hardness will bring to mind different applications. We all recognize the good and bad of hard tires. Harder compound tires don't stick to the track very well, particularly in lower temperatures. These tires do wear better than softer compounds. Hardened steel is a must for our wheel bearings, and engine parts like crank and rod pins and piston rings to give longevity. For our kart frames, too much hardness would reduce flexibility and metal fatigue, cracks and eventual breakage would occur from the constant turning and roughness of our race tracks. Hardness here would be a serious problem.
Hardness of heart in regard to our relationship with God is a strong no-no. Hebrews 3:15 says, "Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion". What hardens a heart? Verse 12 says, "See to it brothers, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God". In verse 13 it talks about the deceitfulness of sin. A person who walks with God clearly understands the battle going on in their own heart. Its like any race I've been in where the competition was stiff. If I underestimate their skill or if I lose my focus for a second I will fail and lose my position on the track. In my Christian life to lose focus may result in not sharing Christ with someone, or turning my dependency from God to myself for daily strength. There are probably many areas of our lives where we are in unbelief, and sin has deceived us to a point where we wonder where God is. Let's ask the Lord to show us our hardness, so again we can "hear His voice". With God's help this race against the hardness of heart, is one I want to win.
If you haven't yet entered this race, belief begins by trusting in Jesus Christ's death and resurrection for the forgiveness of sin and the gift of Eternal Life.
