Chaplain's Corner! By Kenneth Dressler Racers for Christ & Chaplain of the MG Tires Championship Enduro Series
For most of us the racing season is a done deal. The pressure is off; our time taken for race preparation is freed up. The thinking, planning, commitment and financial allotments for racing are over. For those who entered the points race, the last race in many cases determined our placement and we can't do a thing to change that. I guess you call that closure. In my last race I finished 2nd out of two entries. I came out of the season unsatisfied with my equipment and questioning my age and driving abilities. It is time to do some serious evaluation.
AT this point it is interesting to note, how faith kicks in and there is the hope of a better next season. Faith made alive by good friends who have the knowledge and ability to help me get my equipment up to par. Then there is the faith revived after pitting with the Bruner race team. I was observing Uncle Glenn, a bit senior to me do an excellent job of driving in tough competition.
Faith is an interesting commodity, in that when you have it, competition changes everything. A biblical faith is best explained out of Hebrews 11. Faith there described, brings a "surety in what we hope for and a certainty in what we don't see". It also says in verse 6, "And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He awards those who earnestly seek Him. Enoch was an example of a man whose faith pleased God and the reward was the escape of death with direct entrance into heaven. Now my faith in my friends needs to be acted out in earnestly seeking their help, with the hope of a better next race season. In the same way, my I encourage you to earnestly seek out this God who promises rich rewards. A novice's faith begins by actively trusting in Jesus Christ sacrificial death for the payment of our sins and resurrection, for our realization (actification) of eternal life. A professional Christian lives in obedience to the living word of God, in thanks giving for eternal life and with an earnest desire to please God. Oh, the wonder of living faith, it leads us to action to improve our racing equipment and with God, it seeks Him.
