Chaplain's Corner! By Kenneth Dressler Racers for Christ & Chaplain of the MG Tires Championship Enduro Series
In preparing for a race, did you ever think about the number of things you do to your kart because of wisdom? Knowledge is something you intellectually learned through reading or being taught by someone else. Wisdom is following the soundest course of action based on what you know, adding experience.
Much of what I do to my kart is based on either past mistakes or successes. I check tire air pressure before a race because once I found myself on the starting grid with a flat tire. I rough up the threads on my spark plug cap because it unscrewed itself while the motor was running, again on the starting grid and popped off. Thanks to Bob Thompson's quick action, he got it back in seconds and God blessed me with a win.
Speaking of miracles, one of the strongest implantation of wisdom was the day at Black Hawk Farms when my kart was run over by an ambulance. I had just pushed my kart out onto the roadway, on my way to the starting grid, when a crash brought out the red flag. You can guess the rest. Wisdom came from two directions. One is obvious, the other was a kind of miracle in reverse. Did you or anyone you know ever have this happen? God was saying to me, "You're not racing today" and asking me, "Do you believe I am number ONE?"
In Psalm 111:10 it says, "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom." To fear the Lord doesn't mean to be afraid of Him, although we should fear the coming judgment day and the one who can cast us to hell if we aren't ready. The other fear is coming to a spiritual understanding of this awesome God and his transcendent attributes. This is what makes Him different from His creation. In Acts 17:24-31 the Apostle Paul was speaking to the Greeks in Athens who worshipped many gods to whom they had built temples of stone and told them that the one true God is Lord of heaven and that it is He himself who gives all man life and breath. That He determined the times set for men and the exact places where they should live. All of this so that men would seek Him because He is not far from each of us.
Wisdom says that we take this knowledge and add the action of repentance. In other words, I take to heart the commands of this awesome God. It begins by receiving His love and forgiveness accomplished when He gave His son, Jesus Christ, for my sin. This brings about a dynamic relationship with Him. I know I have been graced with this Godly wisdom. How about you?
