State of the art "by any measure"

PLYMOUTH, MINN. -- If you're a driver in a class that requires weighing and "teching" of karts, you've no doubt pulled across many Intercomp scales in your time.

As the widely used scales of such sanctioning bodies and racing series as NASCAR Winston Cup, Busch Grand National, ARCA, I.M.C.A., UMP and more, Intercomp also offers its state of the art engineering and computer design techniques to individual racing teams. Drivers such as Terry LaBonte, Ken Schrader and Billy Moyer use Intercomp scales. From super speedways to local dirt tracks, Intercomp scales have become valuable tools for countless racing operations.

Intercomp was the first company to manufacture race scales. Originally known as the Krollkraft Company, the firm first went into business manufacturing electronic livestock industry scales, which revolutionized the weighing of animals. Intercomp, the name the company eventually took, is widely known in aviation, agricultural, fishing, law enforcement and defense industry circles. In fact, Intercomp developed a high precision weighing system that weighs every space shuttle prior to take off.. But through the efforts of company employees who were also race fans, involvement in motorsports also evolved.

With the goal of creating easy to use truly portable scales, Intercomp has become famous for its "SW" series of race scales, which employ digitized technology, as opposed to outdated and unreliable mechanical technology. "The difference between mechanical and digital is like comparing a typewriter to a computer," says Eric Peterson of Intercomp's sales department.

Peterson says in addition to the technologically-advanced capabilities of Intercomp, it's the company's quick response to industry needs that is its strong suit. This is done through a total in-house design and manufacturing philosophy. Indeed, Intercomp is the only true manufacturer of racing scales (as opposed to companies simply placing their name on scales someone else has made).

With CAD-CAM computer design technology employed throughout, Intercomp designed the first digital scale turnplate, the first digital caster/camber gauge and the industry's only two-inch high 1,500-pound capacity weight pads, for ease of use by racing teams, tracks and sanctioning groups.

Intercomp test and certifies its products to ensure you receive a high quality product. All products are tested in environmental test chambers and certified annually by the National Institute of Standards and Technology.

Needs that are realized at race tracks are soon put into production at Intercomp, with the company's valve spring tester and coil spring tester as prime examples. Intercomp staffers attend more than 175 racing events nationwide.

Seventy-five people are employed at the firm's suburban Minneapolis facilities, where all scales are manufactured on-site. Intercomp also manufacture additional racing items, such as a digital temperature gun, a digital pyrometer and a sound level meter.

Visits by race drivers and racing teams are welcomed, with prior approval.

Intercomp offers a free flyer and a $3 catalog. Call (800) 328-3336. to learn more.

Be on the lookout for the five new products this fall that Intercomp will be introducing.

You can see the Intercomp scales in person at industry tradeshows such as SEMA; P.R.I.; Parts Peddler, Miller Motorsports Show and the Circle Track Show.
